Jerlando F. L. Jackson, PhD, was featured on a panel, titled “Evidence to Propel Impact and Accountability,” at the 2024 White House Summit on STEMM Equity and Excellence: Propelling Progress and Prosperity by 2050. The event, which occurred on May 1, 2024 in Washington, DC, was co-hosted by the White House Office of Science Technology and Policy (OSTP) and the STEMM Opportunity Alliance.
Jackson was one of many leaders from across the country who gathered to discuss a pivotal shift toward aligned actions and implementation to achieve a more equitable and excellent STEMM enterprise.
Jackson shared his thoughts on the importance of working to increase diversity and in building trust and community engagement when engaging and working with historically marginalized populations.
“There’s very strong social science evidence that demonstrates that a diversity of thought drives innovation. We also have strong evidence that diverse teams create some of the strongest innovation ideas,” Jackson said. “There’s very strong evidence that diversity is not just a moral imperative but a competitive advantage that we should be harnessing.”
The plenary took place at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building from 9:00 to 11:45 am, with a live-stream watch party at the nearby Ronald Reagan Building. A networking lunch, pillar-focused breakout sessions, and a reception followed at the Ronald Reagan Building.
